Principles of Model Specification in ANOVA Designs

چکیده

Abstract ANOVA—the workhorse of experimental psychology—seems well understood in that behavioral sciences have agreed-upon contrasts and reporting conventions. Yet, we argue this consensus hides considerable flaws common ANOVA procedures, these become especially salient the within-subject mixed-model cases. The main thesis is are model specification. specifications underlying use deficient from a substantive perspective, is, they do not match reality experiments. problem, particular, rely on coincidental rather than robust statements about reality. We provide avoid making arguments based coincidences, note Bayes factor comparisons among already convenient BayesFactor package. Finally, specification necessarily critically reflects concerns, and, consequently, ultimately responsibility researchers. Source code for project at github/PerceptionAndCognitionLab/stat_aov2 .

Default Bayes factors for ANOVA designs

Bayes factors have been advocated as superior to p-values for assessing statistical evidence in data. Despite the advantages of Bayes factors and the drawbacks of p-values, inference by p-values is still nearly ubiquitous. One impediment to the adoption of Bayes factors is a lack of practical development, particularly a lack of ready-to-use formulas and algorithms. In this paper, we discuss and...

Model comparison in ANOVA.

Analysis of variance (ANOVA), the workhorse analysis of experimental designs, consists of F-tests of main effects and interactions. Yet, testing, including traditional ANOVA, has been recently critiqued on a number of theoretical and practical grounds. In light of these critiques, model comparison and model selection serve as an attractive alternative. Model comparison differs from testing in t...

Constructing Confidence Intervals for Effect Sizes in ANOVA Designs

A confidence interval for effect sizes provides a range of plausible population effect sizes (ES) that are consistent with data. This article defines an ES as a standardized linear contrast of means. The noncentral method, Bonett's method, and the bias-corrected and accelerated bootstrap method are illustrated for constructing the confidence interval for such an effect size. Results obtained fr...

Profiling Specification PEARL Designs

An approach to holistic system modelling is presented, based on the Specification PEARL hardware/software co-design methodology, having its origin in the standard Multiprocessor PEARL specification language. Specification PEARL specifications and models represent prototypes of systems and programs, based on the PEARL program model. The system models built are checked for timely execution by co-...
